Q & A

Q: When and why did you start training for fighting?
ANSWER: I first began training BJJ in 2005 because as a child I was way bigger and stronger than the kids of my age and my parents signed me up for training so I could learn how to control and understand my body’s strength. I trained on and off due to participation in other sports through high school, and after I graduated, I got back to training BJJ, where I got involved with the MMA fighters, got more appreciation from the sponsors, and began to train Muay Thai, already thinking about competing and transitioning to MMA. It was more for the experience, and the idea of taking this as a career wasn’t a thing until after my first fight
Q: What ranks and titles have you held?
ANSWER: 5x BFL (Battlefield Fight League) heavyweight champion, #1 heavyweight in Canada outside of the UFC
Q: Do you have any heroes?
ANSWER: In sports, growing up, I admired and looked up to the Brazilian legends like Anderson Silva, Jose Aldo, Mauricio Shogun and others, but as heroes, I will have to say my parents.
Q: What would it mean for you to fight in the UFC?
ANSWER: Fighting in the UFC is a life changing opportunity in so many ways, but, for me, it means being able to compete with the best in the world. I need that level of competition to push myself to be the best.
Q: Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn?
ANSWER: Yes, I did go to college. Back in Brazil, I went to law school for three years, but I left before graduating because I couldn’t see myself working in the area and, at the end of the day, I was there more for the college experience than the program itself. After I came to Canada, I went back to college in a Graphic Design program and got a diploma on it.
Q: What was your job before you started fighting?
