Q & A

Q: When and why did you start training for fighting?
ANSWER: I've always loved competition and underdog stories. Martial arts has always been a big part of my life and has kept me on a good path.
Q: What professional titles have you held?
ANSWER: I held the professional 170 title for combat night MMA. Also in 2014 I won submission of the year for Florida awarded by the Florida MMA Awards.
Q: Any accomplishments in amateur combat sports?
ANSWER: I was undefeated as an amateur and held belts in two different organizations, rival Fight League, and combat night. Both were 155 championship belts. I also competed an IBJJF worlds tournament as a blue belt and have won dozens of grappling tournaments.
Q: Any belts/ ranks in grappling disciplines?
ANSWER: I am a brown belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu under Professor Roberto Cuartero, representing Gracie Barra.
Q: Any belts/ ranks in striking disciplines?
ANSWER: I'm a brown belt in Taekwondo. And have worked with many greats in boxing, my main boxing coach being former world boxing champion Nate Campbell.
Q: What has been your toughest fight to date and why?
ANSWER: My toughest fight to date was against Mike Perry early in my professional career. It was tough not because I lost but because I gave up on myself during the fight. But it was essential for my growth as a fighter and helped me learn more about myself and how much I can take.
Q: Who is your favorite fighter and why?
ANSWER: When people ask me who my favorite fighter is, it is always hard for me to answer that question. I like all of them. I think I can learn from watching every fighter. If I had to say somebody, I wanted to be like coming up, it was Joe Lauzon. I wanted to be like him and mimic his style of BJJ.
Q: What was your job before you started fighting?
ANSWER: Worked at family restaurants
Q: Personal Life/Background:
ANSWER: I was born and raised in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. My parents owned a seafood restaurant which was a family business. I spent most of my early years at the restaurant because my parents worked a lot. Growing up, my brother and I were very close in age and very close; we did everything together. We may have had too much freedom, but I think we turned out okay. My stepdad moved into our house when I was 15 and showed me what MMA was by making me watch the original UFC with Royce Gracie. Not long after, I found a local gym and have been at it since. Outside of training and coaching, which is what I do full time, I enjoy fishing, skateboarding, playing guitar, spending time with loved ones and just about every sport you could think of. No wife or kids yet, but my dream is to have a big family one day.
