Q & A
Q: When and why did you start training for fighting?
ANSWER:
I first began training when I was 14, mainly for the fact it was the only sport I didn’t get kicked out of. It was a way for me to work out some of my anger and next thing I knew I turned pro when I was 16 and I found my calling in life.
Q: What ranks and titles have you held?
ANSWER:
Former UFC middleweight champion, King of the Cage middleweight belt, black belt in BJJ
Q: What fight do you consider the key fight in your career?
ANSWER:
The Usman fight. That was the fight that I learned jiu jitsu doesn’t work and you need to get up.
Q: Who is your favorite fighter and why?
ANSWER:
I don’t have a favorite fighter, but I respect the old-school fighters the most. People who showed up, fought hard, and didn’t make excuses.
Q: Do you have any heroes outside of fighting?
ANSWER:
Not really heroes. I respect people who’ve been through real adversity and didn’t let it break them. Anyone who takes responsibility for their life and keeps moving forward has my respect.
Q: What are your current ranks in martial arts?
ANSWER:
Black Belt in BJJ
Q: Is there a cause that you want to use your platform for?
ANSWER:
I just want to give back to my fans. They have allowed me to make a life out of this sport. Without them I would probably be in prison somewhere.
Q: Beyond a championship and money, what motivates you?
ANSWER:
Besides money, my motivation to fight is for my fans. They are the reason I get to train every day and still pay my bills.
Q: What was your job before you started fighting?
ANSWER:
I turned pro when I was 16. I’ve always been a fighter.
Q: Favorite Striking technique:
ANSWER:
Not getting punched in the face technique
Q: Tell us about your life outside of fighting:
ANSWER:
I keep my life simple. I train, I spend time with my dogs, I shoot, I ride motorcycles.
Q: What is one thing you want UFC fans to know about you?
ANSWER:
What you see is what you get. I’m not playing a character. I fight hard, I speak honestly, and I show up every time.
