Q & A

Q: When and why did you start training for fighting?
ANSWER: With an older and younger brother, we were always fighting each other growing up. I had 2 uncles who were passionate about martial arts and one of them showed me a YouTube video of Fedor Emelianenko vs Hong Man Choi where Fedor was giving up 120lbs and was able to submit the much larger man.  Being a smaller kid, it struck a chord with me and really inspired me to learn more about the sport. I started training grappling at the age of 14 and transitioning into MMA at 21.
Q: What has been your toughest fight to date and why?
ANSWER: My 4th professional fight was my toughest so far. It’s the only fight I had that went the distance, it was a 5 round fight and I fractured my orbital in the beginning of the 3rd so I had to fight most of the fight with terrible double vision and most likely a concussion. That fight really tested my resolve and ability to find a way to win despite the injury.
Q: Who is your favorite fighter and why?
ANSWER: Alexander Volkanovski. He is well rounded, exciting to watch, he’s hard working and someone kids can look up to. He takes risks in the pursuit of greatness and an inspiration to all, especially his fellow countrymen who come from blue collar backgrounds. Same reason why I love Merab Dvalishvili and Demetrius Johnson. They all worked in construction; all have a place in GOAT conversations and continue/continued to have success in the later years of their careers.
Q: What was your job before you started fighting?
ANSWER: Electrician and MMA coach
Q: Origin of nickname:
ANSWER: Given to me by a teammate for my stature and being a menace in the gym. Turns out the Kakamora are from my birthplace of Solomon Islands and googles description of them suits me well. From my research they are a mythological being who probably don’t actually exist. Similar to Leprechauns but here is what google says about them
Q: Personal Life / Background (family stuff, kids, etc):
ANSWER: My wife and I have been together since teenagers. We have 3 kids, a 4-year-old boy, Sonny, and 2-year-old twins (boy, girl) Banx and Quinn. My wife and I run a martial arts gym together, and she also works part-time. Between training, work, the gym, and kids, it keeps us pretty busy.
Q: Who are 3 people you love to meet or work with (celebrities, content creators, other fighters, sports stars)?
ANSWER: I’d love to meet and work with Demetrius Johnson, Greg Jackson and Henry Cejudo. 2 of the greatest flyweights to ever do it and Greg Jackson is one of the greatest MMA coaches in the game, with a teaching style that resonates with me.
Q: What are your hobbies, activities or other interests when not training for a fight?
ANSWER: I enjoy training even more when I’m not in fight camp. More rein to experiment, try new things and be creative in the training room. Besides that, I like to spend more time with my wife and kids when I’m not in camp. Take them to parks, beaches, gaming arcades and just hang out with them.
